Medieval marriage counselling by the 9^th Century bishop Pliny:
"No matter how infertile, deformed, old hag, smelly, timid, angry, bad-mannered, spendthrift, stupid, big eater, quarrelsome she is or has a malicious tongue you still have to keep her whether you want to or not."

According to Saint Thomas of Aquinas a woman’s problem is that because she was a passive individual she therefore did not know how to lead or walk in front.

From the clergymen for example Humber of Romans compressed into a couple of words the reason why the church felt that women should not participate in the teaching or the sermons provided by the church: women have little or no understanding, they have no prestige, their appearance might cause lustful thoughts and the very first woman had been stupid.

A woman’s character and manners are like those of a child’s. And as a child is not a whole person (man) but is without complete understanding, nor is the woman a whole person (man) lacking the complete understanding and reason.

God did not create Eve out of Adam’s leg so that Adam would have humiliated or hurt her. Furthermore, God did not create Eve out of Adam’s head so that Eve would have sought to control the man. God created Eve out of Adam’s rib so that the man would consider Eve his companion and friend.

The Microcosm consisted of the four bodily humours: blood, phlegm, black
bile and yellow bile. Each of the four humours reflected the elements of
the macrocosm: air, water, earth and fire, respectively. The hujours also
had temperature and moisture properties. Blood was hot and wet, phlegm was
cold and wet, black bile was cold and dry and yellow bile was hot and dry.
According to this theory, when a person became sick, one of the four
humours was out of balance.

The Bubonic Plague is caused by the communal sin of pride.

When curing diseases a doctrine of correspondence was applied by which similarity can help to cure. Therefore, for treating heart diseases people used plants whose leaves were heart shaped. Similarly, blood was thought to become stronger by drinking crimson coloured plant juice. Also plants that resembled the human eye were thought to help with eye diseases and so on.

Ordinary people were usually not even aware what year not to mention what day it was or how old they themselves were.
